Isabella County is named after the great
Queen Isabella of Spain for her patronage of Columbus. Before its
organization in 1831, the area was inhabited by Chippewa Indians.
In 1859, by Act No. 118 of the Michigan Legislature, Isabella County
was officially organized.
Isabella County has a population of approximately 63,725 residents.
Mount Pleasant, the county seat, is its largest community, playing
host to many Central Michigan University students and visitors
to the Soaring Eagle Casino east of town.
